Training New Children's Librarians - What exhaustion, what joy!
See my post on the ALSC Blog to find out what new children's librarians have to learn (and they do it with a smile, those sweet puppies!).
Puppy love! My daughter Kalimba works at the main branch of the library in our town, continuing the family fascination with books and public service. She had checked out a copy of Thomas Pynchon's Gravity Rainbow but had to return it before finishing. Since there is a wait list, she asked if I would purchase her a copy during my errands. Upon reimbursing me for her book, she admits " Mom , I'm thinking about the dishes" - as in I'm not at the point of actually washing them but I am thinking about them. In the call and response that has evolved between us , I say dishes - wishes! My offspring responses " You know it's the thought that counts".My cup runs over!
