From the blog The 'M' Word - Marketing Libraries comes this post on Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District's new staff social media cards. On one side are the library's website, Facebook, and Twitter accounts - on the other side is a picture of a librarian, his/her position, and that person's social media accounts - Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, email, blog, and so on. What they want to share with patrons is up to them.
How cool is that? While I personally wouldn't want patrons to be friending me on Facebook right and left, I certainly wouldn't mind them reading my Goodreads reviews and/or my blog - in fact, the more, the merrier!
An actual photo of the librarian? Or just a generic librarian? Definitely not your stuffy, formal business card. I like it.
ReplyDeleteHey! I know some of those librarians! It's a small world.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine if we had social media contacts on our business cards? That'd be so cool. My policy for FB is that I'll friend anyone I've met in person. And since nearly anyone can read it, I post updates on my life, but not anything ridiculously personal or snarky, so patrons are more than welcome. (Though I haven't had any try to friend me yet.)
I still have people tell me, "Don't tell anyone about your blog! You might get fired!" Gosh. We've got a long way to go.
